French harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet has been Principal Harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic since 1993.
She began studying the harp at the age of eight with Elisabeth Fontan-Binoche at the Nice Conservatory. She later continued her musical development under the guidance of Jacqueline Borot through her renowned summer courses, an experience that profoundly enriched her early artistic training.
While still in her teens, Langlamet won several major international competitions, including the Geneva International Music Competition.
At just 17, she was appointed Principal Harpist of the Nice Opera Orchestra, and at the age of 20 she joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra under the baton of James Levine. During her years in New York, she continued to earn international distinction, winning the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York, First Prize at the International Harp Contest in Israel, and Second Prize at the USA International Harp Competition.
Composer Nathan Currier was an important artistic influence during her New York years, helping to shape her musical vision and approach to interpretation.
At 25, Langlamet was appointed Principal Harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic.
An internationally acclaimed soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist, she has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann, Marek Janowski, and François-Xavier Roth.
A dedicated chamber musician, she has enjoyed a long-standing musical partnership with flautist Emmanuel Pahud. In recognition of her artistic achievements, she was named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the culture minister.
Alongside her performing career, Marie-Pierre Langlamet teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic.
